I first heard about this oddity on the Art Bell radio show. It involves the true story of a chicken that lived for four years AFTER having its head cut off. Evidently, the brain stem was intact, allowing all the autonomic and instinctual behavior to continue. It amazed university scientists and wowed the sideshow crowds that went to see it.
