THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN

A SMALL SELECTION OF PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THE FILM

You'll be in a barrel if you don't watch out for the fighters.  Michael Caine was just one of the 'star names' to appear in Battle of Britain.

During a break in filming the German 'fighter pilots' gather around a pair of real aces of World War Two. Adolf Galland (wearing black blazer) and Robert Stanford Tuck
(sitting with his back to the camera) are being interviewed as part of the film's publicity campaign.

Aircraft preservation the world over owes Captain Hamish Mahaddie a great debt. Hamish's involvement in sourcing the aircraft for Battle of Britain really kick-started
the warbird movement as we know it today. A founding member of the RAF's famed Pathfinder Force, Hamish is pictured at his home in 1990. He died, aged 85, in 1997.

Connie claims to have been shot down over 100 times during the filming.
(Note: CAF pilots were used to pilot several of the film's aircraft, as they had current experience with flying warbirds.)

During the process of making Battle of Britain, veterans of the actual 1940 conflict often visited the locations
and studios. A wheelchair-bound Lord Dowding takes a look around Duxford, accompanied by (L to R):
Tom Gleave, Robert Stanford Tuck, Ben Fisz, Freddie Young and Guy Hamilton.

Director Guy Hamilton (wearing his trademark white hat) plans the next scene with the film's co-producer
Ben Fisz, as they stroll past a Spitfire at Hawkinge Airfield, one of the film's most authentic locations.
